Non - Toxic Skin Sunscreen

Daily face sunscreen. This was a hard one and let me tell you why it was a hard one. 

Daily face sunscreen is the most important skincare item. 

More important than even moisturizer and face wash. One of my ocular plastic surgeons, of which there were several, but this one, the best one, he told me that if he could only use one skincare product, it would be sunscreen. Even over face wash and moisturizer -sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. It fights aging, it fights CANCER, it fights dry skin, it fights the appearance of new freckles and age spots. WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN!

 With all the scars I have, sunscreen is definitely a priority in my routine. 

Unfortunately, though, safe sunscreen that's affordable and doesn't feel weird is one of the 

hardest products to find. It took a long time to find Raw Elements Daily Face Sunscreen SPF 30. 

I was doubtful when I first tried it because it comes out of the tube very thick and grainy.

 You need such a small amount because it's so thick and spreads so much. It's weird. But my doubts were eliminated throughout the day. It definitely feels so good. I keep touching my face. It's so soft. Moreover, it doesn't leave your face looking white as face sunscreen often does, so it truly is daily.

This daily sunscreen contains zinc oxide, which is why safe sunscreen is so hard to 

find because zinc oxide is in most sunscreens.

Zinc oxide can be harmful to humans if it's in an aerosol or spray which can lead to 

lung cancer. However, this cream is a cream, not an aerosol.

 The second way that zinc oxide is particularly harmful is if it's labeled nano. Nanoparticles can pass the skin barrier and be absorbed into the skin, which is a problem because they are indeed toxic to the skin. Additionally, if inhaled or ingested they can cause gastrointestinal issue. Thankfully, Raw Elements only contains non nano zinc oxide.

From the environmental standpoint, World Health Organization, which is US, and ECHA, which is the European Chemicals Agency, 

experts in both these organizations find zinc oxide harmful to aquatic life in 

high concentrations. But Raw Elements has a low concentration of zinc oxide. Therefore, it is reef-safe. A 2021 independent study found that photo-dentation between zinc oxide and 

other compounds when in the sun for more than two hours can create toxic chemicals. However, none of those other said compounds appear here in Raw Elements Daily Sunscreen SPF 30.
